Alma Chavez, 2017 NMSU graduate in forensic anthropology, has been awarded a Fulbright Scholarship to study at University of Kent in Great Britain in the Fall of 2021.  Chavez was born in El Paso, Texas and grew up in Ciudad Juarez, Mexico. “She was a witness to and knew families of femicide victims in Juarez.  She was inspired to pursue her degree in hopes of one day bringing justice for the victims who have not been identified. At the University of Kent she will pursue research in forensic anthropology, focusing on developing more effective identification methods.  According to Professor Andrea Orzoff, director of NMSU Office of International Education, “Alma is so smart, but also so kind and humble.  She’s very typical of NMSU Fulbright applicants.”
